Apple has world wide warranty on all products that are portable (= macbook, macbook pro, ipod). BUT, in some countries the local repair shops don't have to honour this because it was bought in another country (Sweden does this, no idea about other countries).

I believe for the local shops it would depend on if they are a reseller or not for if they choose to honour the warranty. I imagine they'd have to have some sort of formal affiliation with apple to be able to honour the warranties properly which could take some sort of rigmarole to ascertain. On the other hand, I'm merely musing on this. Best idea is to contact your nearest apple related store and just ask them, as they'd be the place you'd be taking it to.

As for cost... try google to start with....

Well depending on your currency I think that buying one in America could be cheaper to you simply because the dollar is so weak (last I checked anyway) but I suppose if your currency is close to the dollar maybe not so much.

Many places in NYC will take Euro's and British Pounds now, so I'd look for those

Go to the Apple store, there's a few in NYC.

An iPod classic is about $250 USD.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

Absolutely. You pay the same in dollars as we pay in Euro's for a lot of goods. On top of that comes the collapse of the dollar, around 1.50 $ = 1 euro nowadays.

Yeah I was only kidding. They've got tons of 'em, especially since stores like Macys even carry electronic vending machines for iPods that you pay for on the spot.

You could always check out NewEgg's deals on the iPod but I'm not sure if they ship to England or where you'll be in NYC.
