id just like to point out how relaxed the driver is in this truck when he is launching it, his face is like everyone elses face when their walkin threw a shopping center
that is because of the good shocks, and the fact that these jumps are no more than "bumps" compared to the few meter high jumps they do in the desert these kind of trucks have always interested me.what is more beautiful as a xx ton truck flying through the desert at 150 km/h ?Originally Posted by eyebrows
Jan de Rooij has faced a severe accident about a decade back. His co-driver was killed, and his mechanic was severely injured IIRC. The wreckage of his truck is now in the DAF-Museum in the dutch city of Eindhoven. Not much is left of it he stopped entering the Dakar after having been a competitor for more as a decade. When his son talked about entering Dakar a few years back, he first let him be his navigator. Since he liked it , they now form a double-truck team.Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

In 1988 de Rooy had a DAF with two engines (one for each axle) and they produced 1000 hp together. On the long straights he even overtook some cars. He was 3rd in the overall (cars, trucks, motorcycles) rankings and heading for the victory in the truck rankings. But DAF had a second truck wich had a heavy crash and co-driver Kees van Loevestijn died. DAF decided to withdraw from Dakar.Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

Any driver in any vehicle in any event who at ANY time gets a look pf panic and does NOT always keep themself like they're "walking through a shopping centre" is a liability and shouldn't be in the competition !!!Originally Posted by eyebrows

Why? I want to hear a good reason for your opinion. "They are trucks" is not a good reason.Originally Posted by bmwpower
