Which tele lens for the 450D?

    Hey guys,

I might get a Canon 450D with the new 18-55 EF-S IS and I was wondering what cheap tele lens I could buy...

I was considering the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 macro (~280€)? What do you think?

What will you use it for?
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Mainly architectural close-ups or macrophotograpy (insects/flowers, that kind of things). All I want is to get sharp photos...

I've got that exact lens. Its very good for the price but you really need to invest in a tripod for lowish light or full telephoto length. The macro's really nice though. Here are a couple of pics I've taken with it. This is with my 4 year old Canon 300d.

Scale the resolution down a little and shots will be sharp as anyone could want on them I find.

So do you want/need the telephoto lense? Is it multi-purpose?

I bought the same lense as Spaz. It has served me excellent, I have to say. It's a pretty good deal for a nice price(129€ for me). Chrmatic abberations can be rather large sometimes, but im not sure if that is because of the lense.. Also the very bright colour orange used on vessels, can sometimes give problems. Will try and find some examples.

I think you'll have more success on that one in dedicated photography forums, and you'll get more oppinions and suggestions... just my 2 cents
I am easily satisfied with the very best.

yeah, but what's two owners when you can have tens of them without breaking a sweat. it'll give a wider perspective of the lens(es)

Make that 3. I have the Macro Super version. It's alright, colours aren't greatest though.

Sure. First of all the problem with the orange, I mentioned above. This shot it's not even that bad, but in others with a bit brighter light it ruins the entire shot. In reality it is definately much less bright then this is. Shot in Jpeg.

Second&third are two close-ups I did today. First one taken from about 4metre's away. Second about 1 metre. Both shot in RAW, converted using Photoshop Lightroom.

I hosted them on some other webspace that belongs to me, so I could show you the originals. My lense has the Macro function as well. It's still for sale at the shop I bought it.

I got my lens for the equivalent of 90 euro brand new in Japan...mind you Japan has the cheapest camera gear in the world so thats an unfair comparison! and it has the macro option.
