Gumball 3000

What car would you, if you could, race at the Gumball 3000?
A fast comfortable SUV like the Cayenne turbo, or a flamboyant supercar like an Enzo or a Zonda? What about a more discrete and yet very fast car like a 996 GT2 or even an executive car like the M5? Or, would even go mental and race with a sleeper tuned Benz or AUDI and surprise everyone?

Anyway, it's somekind of a long distance race, for rich boys with fast cars...

I think I would take a luxury Ferrari (456 or 575)

It's not the most expensive, it's not the slowest and it has proved itself in races.

I Have a video of one os this Gumball 3000 and there are so many ferrari, porsche, and cars like these...

I don't know if you have seen the movie 'The Cannonball Run'?
in that movie rich people from all over the world race expencive cars from the East Coast to the West Coast in the USA. It's illegal and there are no closed roads, thats the storie in the movie.

The Gumball 3000 is about the same, but than for real. The race starts in New York and ends in LA, the competitors race cars like
Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes Benz. the roads are not closed and the police is overworking (is that good english?) It's like the ultimate street race. The competitors sleep in nice exclusive hotels. The one who is the fastest wins, but for the most competitors competing is more important than winning, (i think)
it cost about $8000 to compete.

the gumball 3000 (3000miles) starts from London to Moskou and back, they have to use a roadbook, every night there's a big party and most competitors have a large amount of cash with them so they can pay the tickets right away

yeah that's true, 8000 to enter, first one to cross the line get the spirt of gumball trophy but it's more like a bunch of rich ppl hanging out together going around america(3000 miles that's wat 3000 stands for) visitng tourist attrections getting caught by the police etc. and yes, when the police get news that gumball competiors are in their state, they go into overdrive!

Well I know this thread is a tad old but that shouldn't stop a new post once in a while.

Anyways, if you want to know what the Gumball 3000 is all about then take it from someone who's had his time in the '02 and '03 events.

I bet there are some things about the Gumball 3000 that you didn't know fully. So I'll go into full details about it all. First off, it's not 8,000 dollars to enter, it's 8000GBP so that's around 13,000 dollars US. The cost covers a driver and co-driver ( who wants to drive alone for 3k miles? ) and also covers the cost of the five-star hotels, breakfast, lunch stops etc. Now if you want to see the sites, let's say The Grand Canyon, you'll have to pay for all those little extras.

Do these guys have money? Not all of them. Everyone thinks that if you compete in the Gumball 3000 you have some ungodly about of sum in the bank. There are guys that are sponsored, guys that have friends and family chip in as their 'once-in-a-lifetime' kind of fun. It's a really really fun Rally. Not just by the fact that you're speeding across the country ( everyone has the right to set their own pace though ). Now of course the guys in the Lambos, Ferraris and Porsche ( yours truly ) can afford the entry fee to these races with minimal pocket digging. If any of you had seen the Mischief 3000 video that documents the Gumball 3000, did you remember the car in New Mexico at the Hyatt? The one that was being chased by the police SUV in the parking lot? He had four people in his car. Extra people in the Gumball cost 2,500GBP per person, so you do the math.

'02 probably had the greatest 'guests' when we set off for the first day in New York. Our driver's meeting which entailed the opening speeches from Maximillion Cooper were followed by other people, which you didn't see in the Mischief 3000 video ( probably for identity publishing rights ). But we were also in the presence of guests like Jackie Chan ( who starred in the Cannonball Run movies ) as well as Keanu Reeves who wanted to join on the Ducati Team at the time but had to be back for the next Matrix movies ( poor Keanu ).

In essence the Gumball 3000 isn't about getting ahead of everyone, taking the lead and claiming victory. It's a lot more fun to stick together in packs of a dozen or so and just watch people gawk and drool as you cruise on by ( at less than legal speeds ). Imagine the kind of response you get when you pull into a gas station with a Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari 355, Ferrari 360 and then a Porsche or two ( it's quite flattering ). Think we didn't get a lot of attention from the cops either? In Texas we got a police escort out of the city of Dallas, they were nice enough to close off roads until we got onto the Interstate. Then they started to pull us over, but they didn't give us any tickets, just talked with us about our cars, admired them for a bit, then let us on our way. The only disappointment in the Gumball 3000 would be when people's vehicles broke down, cause that's not fun for anyone. Other than that, it's quite an event to behold, I recommend if you can get the funding and a vehicle to match, take the 3,000 mile ride of your lifetime. There isn't going to be a better experience in this lifetime.

Tough. Bentley Arnage T, Cadillac CTS-V, Ford GT, Maserati Quattroporte, MG ZT X-Power, TVR Cerbera Red Rose or a Mercedes SL55. I could go on and on and on, but it would probaly be the Cerbera with the red rose conversion. For a laugh, it would be interesting to see someone try do this race in a Smart city coupe.
