The ONLY similar piece of hardware on the cars is the engine. And at least on the R8 it's not placed ahead of the front axle line. The RS4 may have more seats, but I can settle for scaring the heck out of one friend at a time. R8, all the way!

The engine is not similar but rather the same. And both are four wheel drive. Even if the layout is different it's not enough for me. And when it comes to sportscars the R8 is nowhere near the top of my list. On the other hand when it comes to super estates the RS4 is.
