The 996 turbo is a nice choice. But the C5 Z06 is a good performer, gets good mpg and looks great. If you want the ultimate car fpr a family that still wants speed CTSV or if you can stuff your children in the back seat a Ferrari 456.

I'd go for the RS4, almost a sleeper, 4 seats, good luggage space, also the Elise, seats the same as the porsche... minimal luggage also... better handling and a great buy... but i'm completly biased on that one... don't mind me...

Rx8: Is fugly, uses up oil like nobodys buisness, and Is slow, at least in a striaght line anyway.

The 911 on the other hand probably gets just as good mpg and is way cooler And who cares about the price! This is the ultimate car (and therefore you should have to pay the ultimate price)

It is great looking, it seats four, yet it is a sports car. It can be ordered with a transmission that is automatic, then can be changed to maunel with paddle shifters, it hadnles the roads like a champ, and can be pretty reliable if you take care of it properly.

But, that is just my opinion.
Rx-8? I don't know.. definitely disagree there. But to each his own.

See? all of you? Veyron. Simply its the most expensive, faster car. It's not about handling, performance, comfort, speed, fuel consumption or all dat shit anyway. The Ultimate car, is the car that scores highest in COCK-O-METER.

Lacks grunt, lacks soundtrack, lacks ultimate reliability.

    OK...

an 'ultimate car' would be a car for everything.

    - Shopping on Saturday to feed a family of 4 for the next week.
    - Taking the kids to school.
    - Cruising the freeway/motorway/autoroute in a relaxed fashion.
    - Track days vs. Porsches (and winning, preferably).
    - Split personality- from a raging beast to a docile cruiser.
    - Must give some impression of economy when needed.
    - Seats 4/5 in reasonable comfort.
    - Affordable insurance.
    - Can fit large objects for the tip in it.

That's one set of criteria, that's the stuff I look for. However, what about bachelors who have no plans to get married, with a little more money in the bank?

There is no definitive 'ultimate car'. Everyone has their own choices and opinions. For me, it's between an E39 M5 (the first car that popped into my head under those criteria), Audi RS6 Avant, Vauxhall Monaro VXR500, E46 M3, or a Mercedes CLS55 AMG.

For someone else, it might be a Porsche 911, and for other people it could well be a Toyota Yaris or a Ford Focus ST.

OMG ..... if there's a show in Discovery titled "The Ultimates" and it featured something like Yaris...... how's it gonna be?!?!

It had to be something like B2 Bomber, Maglev Trains, SR-71 ...... get the Ultimate defined first i guess. It's a good thread, but the starter did not provide good definitions.

    Audi S/RS wagon FTW!!!

And that "fit large objects" would knock out the E39 M5 for me. Except for maybe dead bodies.

    Exactly

I keep seeing the B6 S4s hanging about- before they got all the weird curves and shit. I love them. Avus Silver Avant with the 9-spoke 18s, Nogaro Blue Avant with the Avus wheels, Brilliant Red Avant with the Avus wheels and my current favourite- the Brilliant Black Carbriolet with Avus wheels.

RS6 is still at the top of my list. So much weird, weird character oozing from that car.

    We're not fanboys. We're enthusiasts.
