You are correct. I have seen the pictures of the concept. However, just this week, BMW released the pictures and specs on the production Z4 Coupe and the M Coupe. The press release and production photos are here.
I'm going to eat breakfast. And then I'm going to change the world.

Yes, as do most of the world...

The 4.8is is basically an M-X5... but unlike Mercedes, who slap an AMG badge on anything that stops, BMW still respect that a 2-tonne 4WD cannot be worthy of the M-badge. So it's an "is". If I remember rightly, they also did a 4.6is.

    Thankfully....

they wont release pictures of the E-70 (new X-5) I friggin hate the damn thing. It looks like a X-3 on steroids. And the third row seats are miniscule. We havent heard of the finalized drivetrain specs but trust me it will take a monster engine to motivate this beast...lol.Now...the E-71 (dont know what they may badge it as yet) that m.f. is bad.Ive only seen what Bangle had the balls to draw freehand on a dry-erase board in an All Associates meeting. But this damn thing is going to be nice.As he drew it and spoke about the drivetrain it is awe inspiring.(Yes I know he is no longer lead designer but that is who was there to speak to us)He hinted to a 500+ hp engine and the possibility of a manual transmission IF they (management) deems it worthy of the M badge. In most instances the only way a vehicle can get M status is that it must be higher in h.p., handling specs than its "normal" bretheren...AND offer a manual hence the lack of an "M" X-5.As a side note....I hope that press pictures of the "Motorsports Racing Engine Package" for the Z-4 DO get leaked. It is a NIIIICE car.A $250,000 upgrade to the standard Z-4.
