Something I came across on the net.
It's a short video, but real cool nonetheless.

cool vid, seemed to be directed towards a slightly less knowledgable crowd tho, not too much technical talk. still, 18,000 rpms never ceases to amaze me, somehow i don't think my '90 civic could do that
amazing how that engine looks like that of an old small block, compared to modern engines with all the plastic coverings and the airbox routing. 300 times a second is crazy.
Gone:
09 Ducati Monster 696
09 Audi Q5 3.2
03 Infiniti G35 Sedan
07 Honda Civic Coupe LX 5spd
Current:

12 Audi Q5 2.0t
10 VW Jetta TDI
11 Ducati Monster 796
I could listen to that engine all day long. Hell I wish I had it like tuned to my daily routine. I probably would get a hell of a lot more done if that sound was constantly around.

there is a good image gallery on that site too.
nice video. the piston moves up and down alot so youd imagine the average piston velocity is pretty high and it is. but to reduce friction a bit and increases revability the piston stroke is about 2/5 of its bore. i moddeled a similar ferreri setup and it was good fun and quite revealing.
