NASCAR to go Fuel Injection in 2012

Surely a sign of the impending apocalypse:
NASCAR expected to announce move to fuel injection in 2012 - NASCAR News | FOX Sports on MSN

McLaren Electronics will supply the controlled ECU, no doubt due to their current experience with the F1 system and Ron Dennis' hard work as he was in some NASCAR races last year to push for the contract. Makes good sense as the same reason why F1 introduced controlled ECU was to curb possible use of driver's aids...which NASCAR fears would happen if they go electronic engine control...

I am sure they don't do for the purpose of better emission control....

Surely not! The redneck masses don't care about the environment so long as they can keep huntin' and fishin'.

All kidding aside, this is looooooong overdue. What's next IRS?

I doubt aside from this that the cars will become more advanced that a Lada Riva, a Morris Marina, or Al Bundy's "Dodge" (a 1971 Plymouth Duster).
Power to me is having the ability to make a change in a positive way. Don't dream it, be it.

Advanced depends on your views. Nascar's basic technology is limited. However, inside of those rules the teams have put a great deal of money and effort into design optimization.

This article comparing Nascar to F1 motors is quite enlightening.

Very interesting paper, culver... illustrating how engineers push the envelope regardless of restrictions. Both series also have strict rules for aero, wheel-tire size, overall dimensions, and weight. NASCAR's is more a function of "tradition" from American automakers and our history of oval tracks, which can seem deliberately backwards to some.

Aren't they also doing their best to make it more dangerous again, because they know that at least 75% or the "fans" are only watching to see a crash?

Why should it matter so long as the racing is boring?

Did you really think that? Umm that would be stupid. No racing series would do such a stupid thing.

It's so funny to jump from an F1 thread to a NASCAR thread. It's kind of like going from now to the stone age or something, lol.

And I don't mean that as a straight insult to NASCAR, but it is.
