    The new Toyota Prius.

First of all I want to say that I prefer to judge it as a car and not as world saving device. I personally think that this is a whole load of bs.

It was only a short test drive, but the first thing that surprises you most of all is the silence. Below 50km/h you are almost always in electric mode, so the car is almost completely silent which is nice. Performance is ok, and when the petrol engine kicks in it does so completely smoothly. The CVT gearbox goes well for the car. It's not a perfect handling car and the steering is average. Ride is comfy though.

Interior is spacious and the built quality is ok. The boot is relatively big, but the fllor is quite high. One thing that suprised me in such a high tech car is that the hand brake is operated by the foot with a pedal on the floor, which felt a bit 80's.

Overall not bad as a comfortable way to get from A to B, but it is an expensive bit of kit. The base model sells for 24 grand, our fully equipped model for 30.000€. A bit too much for my liking.

pedal operated hand brake smells American, rather than 80's.
The Honda Insight might be a cheaper option too.

Is it? The ones I've driven and been in had the classic hand brake lever between the seats. At least as far as I can remember.

Only Mercedes A- and B-class have cheap hand brake lever. W201 used it too IIRC

Mercedes has used pedal operated hand brake at least for the past 40 years.

A Audi A8 is sitting in front of my house. My neighbours must think i'm a criminal or something.

Tomorrow morning we do a photoshoot of some cars near my place, so I left my Fiesta at HQ for the weekend and pick it up tomorrow after some more test driving

As Revo said, A/B class don't. Don't know about SL/SLK.
On Friday I sat in a E-Coupé C207 and it uses a pedal as "handbrake".
