    Mercury Bobcat 1975-1980

The Ford Pinto is a compact car made by the Ford Motor Company in the early 1970s. Marketed beginning on September 11, 1970, it competed with the AMC Gremlin and Chevrolet Vega, along with imports from makes including Volkswagen, Datsun and Toyota. Offered as a coupe, wagon, and Runabout hatchback, the Pinto was popular in sales, with 100,000 units delivered by January 1971 alone. Its reputation suffered over time, however, especially from a controversy surrounding the safety of its gas tank.

A rebadged Lincoln-Mercury version, the Bobcat, debuted in 1974 as a Canadian-market model, and in March 1975 began selling in the U.S. also (The Pinto Special and Bobcat Special would remain exclusive to Canada into the new model year).

Oooooh. Villager, THE economy alternative to Mercury Monarchs, Ford LTDs and Buick LeSabres for retirement community denizen escapades into strip-mall storefronts and swimming pools. In the early '80s one of these was involved in some form of "unintended acceleration" or other in Century Village almost weekly. But of course Audi stole the spotlight thanks to 60 Minutes.

I like these old obscure cars. They are not pretty, they are not fast, but I like them anyhow.

Anyone on these forums have a Bobcat? I just purchased a '79 Bobcat Runabout the other day which spent most of its days in North Carolina. This thing is very clean and almost zero rust. It's got the 2.3L I4 in it. I'm looking for an air cleaner for it and not having much luck. Which vehicles should have interchangeable parts? Pinto? Zephyr? Mustang? I'm pretty such the frame and chassis is Mustang II.
