The star sports cars from Retromobile ...

Each year, the Retromobile packs more than its fair share of star cars and this year was no exception. Today we have taken a detailed look at four of our favourite sports cars on display. We were particularly taken by this Alfa Romeo Sportiva shown by French dealer Galerie des Damiers. Of the four cars built in period using this fabulous design by Franco Scaglione, this is the only one in private hands. Rarely seen in public, the Sportiva was the show's star car.
British dealer William I'Anson showed this fabulous Alpine A220. Raced in period at Spa and Le Mans, it was subsequently converted for use on rallies and fitted with the short tail bodywork it still wears today. Beautifully restored by one of the car's original designers, chassis 1731 was consigned to William I'Anson by only its second private owner.
On the stand of French dealer Ascott Collection only ground-effect racing cars were shown. Among them was this Lola T600 Chevrolet. This was one of the very first sports cars to use ground-effect aerodynamics. This particular example was raced only at Le Mans in 1981, using a Porsche engine. Built later in the 1980s was the Toyota 88C of which three were built ahead of the 1988 season. After being raced in the World Championship, this car was later also campaigned in IMSA events by Dan Gurney's All American Racers.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.
