5 were built.

3 orange, 2 black.

3, including the two black ones, were sold to members of the same family.

I believe that McLaren have the prototype.

Isnt the prototype the XP4 of so the car resides in cali and you can see it a Crystal Cove.

I also have never seen a black F1 LM, but I think I recall reading that in a book I have - Driving Ambition. It is THE book to have if you're in to the McLaren F1, as it was cowritten by Gordon Murray, and is entirely about the McLaren F1.

EDIT: found a couple of pics, they barely meet the hi-res requirements...

Actually according to this article, LM # 1 and 4 were black. I have still never seen a pic of a black one.
