Everyone appears to have made a step forward, probably except for Ferrari which appears like the 3rd/4th team now as opposed to the first races when it was seen as the 2nd force.
The three new teams have improved their cars, mostly Lotus, but the position didn't change as other teams improved as well.
Finally Sauber and Williams seem to have gained a few positions.
Kubica still impresses, and perhaps M. Schumacher is remembering how to drive now that he got the new chassis.

    Qualifying in 20 minutes.

On the other end of the field, Senna is as fast as the pole setter Bianchi in GP2.

My brother (who doesn't follow motorsports) called up during qualifying (8 AM here in NYC). I explained F1 qualifying procedure to him.. He said "Sounds more exciting than the race". Truer words never spoken. Lets pray for rain tomorrow in Barcelona!

I frankly don't understand what the hell did Mercedes do. They had a good car with a good driver fighting for the championship and another driver being pathetic fighting in the middle of the pack.

The pathetic driver though, has costed them a fortune and has won some championships in the past century and is a bit of a legend, so irrespective of everything else they decided to change the car just to suite him, not asking the other driver at all, which was lying second in the drivers' standings.

In the first race with the new car the young racer struggled with the new car finishing off the points, and the driver which should've been brilliant should've finished a mere 5th and in anycase was more than a minute behind the leader.

What Mercedes-Benz has done apparently, is ruin their season.

Agreed, that decision was a respectable thing to do for the former champ...but arsed for the sake of the campaign.

Hard to say I think. MGP's car was not that close to the front in the previous races, more likely was further than they expected from the lead 3 but mixed weather helped them. I am sure with the old car they will still be some distance back. They made a step forward, but not as much as the others so in effect they fell back...this was the first dry race since Bahrain and held on the benchmark track of f1, so the gap should be most apparent here.....

MGPs car is noticeable better now, butit's still not very fast. You saw that brilliantly in the Schumi vs. Button fight: the Merc had better handling trough the twisties but absolutely died o the straights. BTW, Rosberg liked the new car very much. He said in an interfiew that it's a "huge improvement over the previous one" which had a slightly worse weight distribution. He simply had bad luck today, like so many others (especially Hamilton... i felt bad for him despite favouring Vettel and RB in general ). But all in all it wasn't that bad if you remember that the spanish GP wasnever the peak of excitement.
@Ferrer: were you there or did you only watch it on TV (i know, stupid question )

I've been there 4 or 5 times, but this year I watched it on the telly.

As for Mercedes-Benz, yes they never had the pace of the other three teams, but designing a car exclusively for the driver that fights in the back of the pack, when the other is second in championship, bad weather or not, is not a wise move I'd say.

Yes, Schumacher finished fourth but 62 seconds behind Weber, which means that on average he was almost a second slower a lap. And I agree with Dino that a more agressive driver would've probably overtaken him.

As the bbc commentators said ... no point trying to out-manouvre or psych-out Michael. There onely suggestion was a dive up the inside on the grass and hope.

CLEARLY not a plan if you wished to end the race intact

The curse of the F1 car is that away from the optimal line to and through a corner it's WAY slower in the end.

For REAL racing you gotta watch motor bikes.
This weekends WSB from Monza was superb with 2nd to 4th all touchign wheels and bodywokrk through some of the technically most difficult corners on a circuit. WITH NO MALICE, just honest racing.

In F1 you get too close and it's a slight turn of the wheel and a front wing is gone !!!
"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
