Hey, it's still better than my abysmal 15mpg with mixed city and highway driving. And I don't even drive with a heavy foot!

At least you get some sort of enjoyment out of it.

The Volvo's fine for cruising but sometimes I want something that handles!

it handles. sort of. okay okay it will never be the sort of tofu battle downhill touge machine that whiteballz masturbates over, but for it's bulk and grandpa spec suspension/wheels it's okay.

Hey, don't feel too bad. I've got an I6, and mine gets worse mileage that a viper. I can do about 15-17mpg as long as I don't get much over 55mph, but once I start cruising at 70mph the fuel consumption is pretty abysmal. I still find it very annoying that my dad's full size truck averages well over 20mpg on freeway slogs and I can't come close in something that weighs half as much.

I considered dropping in a diesel but there's not a whole lot available over here in the appropriate size/power range at the moment. Dropping in a 5.7L hemi actually improves the mileage over what I have, so I'm thinking of doing that. You know, to save the polar bears.
