There is a need for the cargo carrying and towing capacity. With that comes weight and size. You see, most of the US population doesn't live near a coast. So, when we want to use our boats we have to tow them somewhere.

when we want to use our boats we just keep them near a shore (lake or seaside).....and for the rare occasion that we need to tow a boat it is much cheaper to rent a truck than to run this living proof of fuel inefficiency for a whole year

I see that's a good point. But then wouldn't it be better to buy pick-up, and then a normal car? I read in the C&D article that this car can't actually tow as much weight as the truck based SUVs.

I see that's a good point. But then wouldn't it be better to buy pick-up, and then a normal car? I read in the C&D article that this car can't actually tow as much weight as the truck based SUVs.

It isn't really that big, compared to say the Tahoe or the Suburban. Maybe it's just the lower roof line.
