Sadly we are only spectating, crewing as a fair few sa guys are making the trip over to race, to get 2 cars and spares etc over on the boat etc is a bit too expensive. We are doing all the state rounds and the truck and Konica rounds, our feilds are skinny this year also. A lot of the guys are forgoing the state rounds to save for Baskerville. Last year at the nats @ Mallala clint(green car) was having some great racing with Adam Ubergang from up your way.

    Miscelleneaous Touring Cars

Some pictures that may be of interest to some here...
#1. Australian Grp C Touring Cars. Nissan Bluebird Turbo and Mazda RX-7, shown at Lakeside 1985 Touring Car Meeting. Both were running as Sports Sedans (for the Europeans, something between Mod Saloons and Thundersaloons), having been made redundant by the adoption of International Grp A. The Nissan, as I recall, was still in full Oz Grp C trim, complete with interior.
#2. Mercedes 190E EVO 2 DTM. My records show that it was labelled as Ludwigs c'ship winning car, I can't honestly confirm if it is, or just a show car. The photo was taken in '91, the car was doing a tour of M-B dealerships in Australia.
#3. One of my favourite Touring Cars. This is Marc Duquets' Appendix J Lotus Cortina taken at Surfers Paradise Raceway in '86. This car was a bit of a giant-killer at Lakeside, but suffered at Surfers if I recall correctly. I am not sure if it was an original car, or one built up from a shell for historic competition in the early 80's.

    Australian Grp A Cars

Photos taken at the Australian Touring Car round May '86.
#1. Ford Escort XR3i. I think this car belonged to Kiwi Andrew Bagnall. I don't recall seeing it again, and if I recall correctly it struggled to be competitive.
#2. Ford Escort XR3i and the Donnelly/Harrex Visionhire Rover 3500 in the background. The Rover was something of an oddity in Australia, and this car was an entirely privateer effort with no help from the manufacture or TWR. It ran carburettors (I know, I saw them!!), Simon Harrex who helped build the car told me that they did approach TWR for some technical assistance but were rebuffed. To my knowledge only one other competitor, West Australian Tim Slako, ran Rovers in the Australian Touring Car Cship. Those cars stood out because they were painted pink
#3. Dummy Grid at the Touring Cars, SPIR May '86. Kiwi David Oxtons' Ford Sierra XR4i Turbo, and couple of Holden Commodores (VK model), on the right is a Cheetah Mk8, could be either Australian National Formula 1 (ie Formula Mondiale) or ANF2 (1600cc single cam) similar to Euro F3.

    Lakeside Touring Cars Jul '86

    #1 & #2. Gary Willmingtons' Jaguar XJS.
#3 & #4. Peter Jackson Racing Nissan DR30 Skyline. I think this is Glenn Setons' car, in the 4th photo it would be overtaking the Rover....
#5. I apologise for the poor quality of this photo. This is the Bailey "Chickadee" Commodore. This is the car that won Bathurst in '86 when Bailey was partnered by Alan Grice.

Bathurst '87 WTCC (the original one)

#1. An Eggenberger Sierra RS500 exitin Mcphillamy across the top of the mountain.
#2. Peter Jackson Racing Nissan Gazelle. Atmo FJ20 engine, I think Australia was unique in racing this particular model. It ran in under 2000cc class, which again I think was unique to Australia, as I am sure the class capacity break for FIA events was up to 2500cc to accomodate the Alfa GTV. This is the car Mark Skaife started his touring car career in.
#3. A trio of Commodores across the top of the mountain.
#4. The eventual winner, Peter Brock in the Mobil Holden Dealer Team VL model Holden Commodore.

Thanks for all the pics BlackHonda.
In regards to the Escort XR3i, it was indeed Andrew Bagnell's car. He teamed with fellow New Zealander Ted Jarvis at Bathurst in 1986 and the car was way off the pace of the Corollas in the same class. The car raced a couple of times at Wellington in the Nissan Mobil 500 street race as well, but didn't fare very well there either.
Bagnell turned up again in Australia in 1988 driving a Sierra RS500 and even qualified top-ten at Bathurst in both 1988 and 1989 (though it was his team-mates, Pierre Dieudonne in 1988 and Graeme Crosby in 1989 who set the times). Ted Jarvis turned up again at Bathurst in 1998 in a standard production Corolla, qualified last and failed to finish.

Was that the TV3 sponsored RS500?..I think that got run up against the wall somewhere up the top of the mountain at Bathurst one year. The right hand side was scraped against the concrete barrier and made a bit of a mess. We transported that car back to NZ after the race (it must have been based in QLD) and it was still damaged, I didn't have my camera with me that day, so no pics unfortunately.
While I am here, although I like Aussie Tourers, I am a bit of a fan of European Touring Cars as well. In particular any of the old Group Five cars (especially Zakspeed Capris, Escorts and also the Toyota Celica) if anyone knows of any good websites I would appreciate the heads up.

Bagnall's RS500 was in TV3 livery in 1989 and 90. From memory it ran Gullivers Travels/Oxo livery in 1988 when it was nominally run as part of the Miedeckie team.

I always wanted that Opel Astra Extreme concept. I ALWAYS thought it looked sooo sick.
