Larger engine means tighter restrictor, so the smaller displacement is not a problem per se. The Audi R8 never ran at the maximum allowed displacement either.

No less, the question remains - are the restrictor rules exactly balanced?

I could see a larger engine still having the advantage potentially.

Audi and Peugeot and Porsche and Acura all designed their engines to the limit of the rules.
