I was born in 1943. No cars were being made then of course because of the war. The year that they converted back to making automobiles was 1946, and those first years the manufacturers had to rely on pre-war designs until they could dream up some new concepts. It wasn't until 1949 that you saw anything really new. The hotest car to come out at that time was the Olds Rocket Eight. That car was ahead of it's time. I would have had one but I was only six years old.

1985 - there is no favourite. Almost everything sucked hard in the 80s. If I did have a favourite, it would still be too embarrassingly crappy and ugly to admit.

Actually there's a bunch of 80s cars I'm a huge fan of... it was a great era for Euros and Japanese sports cars.
Life's too short to drive bad cars.

Indeed. The styling often requires a bit of acclimation, but after a while you start seeing that there were some really tidy designs. The '80s were also the last generation of truly-lightweight cars, since the '90s model bloat has progressed at a furious pace without the frantic downsizing of the Oil Crises to keep it in check.

As far as '80s sytling goes there is always an element of laughing at the car, rather than with it, but at least they have a sense of humor... or something.
Here's an '80s design I thought was horrible for a long while but now am pretty fond of: the Renault Fuego.

    Dig those wheels!
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"

80's rule and that's the end of it.

It's just the best decade for cars.

Maybe I was too harsh. My list for 1985:

    VW Scirocco
    Ford Mustang
    AE86 Toyota

There almost have to be more but I can't think of them at the moment.

EDIT: Shouldn't have forgotten the Volvo 240DL Turbo wagons.
