Legality Regarding Owning a Police Interceptor! HELP

    Hello...new to this forum!

Please someone help me out here...

    I currently live in Seattle.

I purchased a used 05 Police interceptor a while back and have been wondering what the legality is with the equipment that is still installed in it.

It of course has the push bar, spotlight, antennas. But it also has a partition, and window bars still in it.

I've heard you can have everything installed except...a siren, decals, and blue or red lights. Is this accurate? Are the items I have currently on my vehicle legal?

Does anyone know the exact RCW code in which it describes what is and what is not acceptable in this case? I would like to print it out and carry it in my glovebox in case I were to get pulled over and hassled by an un-educated police officer regarding this subject.

I've tried looking it up on google etc...but no luck!

    Thanks in advance...

i've heard that if you get pulled over in it cops are really nice and respectful to their sloppy seconds. they know the car you have and well if it works for them works for you. i'd love to drive one to part traffic like moses did the red sea. you should be fine with all the stuff it has on it.

The only thing that should cause you grief would have been the lights and sirens, and they've kindly taken those off for you.

    All should be fine.

You're probably good as it rides, but why not simply ask DMV? If you bought it in Washington state, surely they have regs for such sales.
In Florida, surplus black & whites (or black & tans if FHP) have to be repainted in one color IIRC, and emergency gear removed.

I have no idea about the legal complications of this but owning a police intercepter, that's pretty cool.

Yeah, long as you don't have lights, sirens and strobes you should be alright.

I remember seeing non-police car Crown Victorias with spotlights, they seem to be okay. I mean, I often see taxis (not the yellow ones, private ones) with the spotlight still on them.

You can spot the non police cars usually by the license plates, antennas, etc.

As far as finding the laws for this... Laws that govern the use of auctioned equipment is a state law there are no US Federal Laws on this matter. Some states require repainting removal of decals of coarse and a few others, some require the "Police Interceptor" badge removed, but chabces are if you bought it like that then it is legal. Those cars have to be striped by law (in most states) before they are auctioned off. Hope this helps

Knew a kid in California who had a surplus cop car that he bough just for the reaction he got from other drivers. There you're not allowed to keep it black and white, so he repainted the black section so dark a blue that you couldn't really tell the difference, and kept the spotlights, etc. Was not appreciated, and possibly coincidentally his tires got slashed a lot.
