cadillac cts-v vs new bmw m5

Which would you prefer, keeping price in mind?

    2004 Cadillac CTS-V:400 hp, 390 ft/lb torque, 0-60 mph in 4.9, $50,000

    2005 BMW M5: 507 hp, 383.5 ft/lb torque, 0-60 mph in 4.5, 60,000-65,000 GBP (I don't know the exact conversion).

Straight GBP to USD gives a price of $110,000 - $120,000, but remember that the UK has highly inflated prices, because our government is too shit to force the manufacturers to sell cars that are the same as sold in Europe at the same prices as in Europe, then they add a healthy dose of tax into the mix.

I doubt they would sell the Cadillac for anything less than $60,000 over here, and probably a fair bit more than that.

The Cadillac has no chance against the M5, BMW are the experts in the field, and the car isn't built to a budget.
    Thanks for all the fish

M5 no doubt!! The cady has a history in the US of building luxury sofas on wheels for the retired, that's what I remember them as anyhow, I just don't see them as a drivers car manufacturer. BMW on the other hand has always been considered one the very best autobahn runners. There is just no contest in my book.

And I'll be the second. The CTS-V is great, and I'm really not seeing a point in spending 10-15 grand more for a few more tenths and a lot more gas guzzling.

Unless I was rich, I would go with the Caddy. For half of the price, you certainly get more than half of the performance. I would guess that the Beamer has a "more refined" interior, and would be considered more luxurious. But I guess I would be more for the performance/$. The LS6 powerplant in the Caddy has certainly been proven in the Z06's over the past 4 years, so I know that the power is legit. Another point, I like the looks better on the CTS as well, even only if for the fact that it is something different. To me most BMW's look soo much the same, and have such a shape that they blend in among most cars. The CTS is a car that when I see it on the road, it catchs my attention. Like the car, I am a bit differnent, for makeing this choice in the face of soo many BMW supporters.

Greatness: repeated higher level performances over a long period of time.

According to road tests, the CTS doesn't handle as well as the equivelant 5 series, therefore there is no reason to believe that the CTS-V will be better than the M5.

Also, my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience of American cars leads me to believe that it would not be able to match the BMW in terms of quality.

My one sticking point is quality, I can't stand it when someone has used crappy silver plastic instead of aluminium, or if something is slightly loose when it shouldn't be.
    Thanks for all the fish
