    I'm Moving!!!!

I don't know when just yeat, but before October I will be relocating to the sunnier climes of Jacksonville Florida. I have gotten order to go to a new ship, the Guided Missile Frigate USS TAYLOR (FFG-50). I will be taking the job of Auxilliaries Officer, so I will basically own all non propulsion related machinery. Big job that will probably require a lot more hours than my current job. But it is a much newer ship, so with luck we will have enough bandwidth to allow me to be on UCP while underway. Hopefully. If there is anybody here from JAX, let me know, and hopefully give me some advice about the area. Otherwise I will be leaving all of the Virginians on here behind.

Good luck with your new job. Do you ever miss driving cars when you're on a ship for so long?

ok, i dont exactly live on the ship... usually.
when we are underway i do. but i live in the local area we are homeported. in my case currently, that is Norfolk, VA. I will be transferring to a ship home ported in Jacksonville. When we go on deployments, I live in the ship for 6-7 months straight, but typically, I go to work and come home in the evening.

deffen, to answer your question, yes. a bunch. i enjoy driving ships, and i'm glad I get paid to do that, but imagine driving at no more than 20-25 miles an hour, where you have to verbally tell your hands where to steer, and your feet just how hard to press. very bizarre, but a skill in and of itself. but i do come home craving to drive my car. and it always takes a few minutes to get re-engaged as to just how sensative the clutch is, etc. all good fun though.

If you look over non propulsionary equipment does that mean you get to look over the guns too?
