My babies - Fiat and Lotus.

    Hi,

Thought I'd share my little collection.

    1) 1974 Lotus Elan +2S 130/5 "Big Valve"
    2) 1971 Fiat 500 Berlina F

Pictures attached. I write about them here in my Classic Motoring blog, The Money Pit, too:

Ps - If I remember I've got a photo of them next to each other at home, which is quite funny. Especially with my idiot father waving his arms out of the roof of the Fiat!

Im more of a fan of the S1 Elan but I suppose they offer very similar driving experiences. Im still very envious I like people who understand the joy of motoring and dont just care about whats on their spec sheet. Your choice of cars makes it certain which category you come under I was reading the little "how to drive" booklet that came with Autocar magazine the other day and they said that the Elan was the best car to drive to understand the car and be at one with your machine.

    Nice choice of cars....

Never seen weather here in England like that second picture.

Wow! Another classic fan! And a classic Fiat owner! You have to check my 67 Fiat 850 coupe on this pages. You'll probably like it.
    I love both your cars.

Welcome to UCP. There are a few classic lovers here, with great knowledge!

    Thanks!

I can tell you a cornering Elan on the original Chapman chassis design redefines the term "on rails" for anybody! You're quite right, that's the beauty of these cars - you can have enormous fun up to 80mph (or a bit faster if you wanted, but I don't) and who would want to go any faster on an English road? That's the charm of the original Super 7 as well.

I would love an S1 too, but alas I can't afford one... (yet!)
The +2S with the big valve engine is actually a teeny bit quicker than the S1 (fractionally better power to weight ratio due to the later, more powerful engine), but the S1 is the only car for the Elan purist. One day!

That's in the Italian Alps. We drove it from Milan to London when we bought it!

Couldn't agree more. Cars like the Elan are the best we can have for fun under legal limits. I love the Elan so much that I'm trying to buy it's spiritual sucessor: the Mazda MX-5 NA. It's not the same, but it's the same concept of car. Great for having fun in the city.
I have some vids of an Elan of a friend of mine that is just like yours (but in silver) in action. YOu should see that!

I know where there's a Lotus Twin Cam 1760 if you wanted

I've always loved the +2s, just not quite as much as the Sprint !!!!
