Perhaps not so much for small bore engines, unless for drag racing.
Anyone have photos of any late 60's-early '70s Tourismo Carreratera racers from Argentina?
They'd place the carburettor at the top of intakes two feet above the hood!

hey csl, been googling on those, hadn't heard of that series.
Looks as good as the Carrera ever was
If you've any details how about giving us a thread on it ? I'm sure lots of others woudl be interested. Googling isn't too helpful as I can't find details .. but this picture just intrigued me to WHAT were these folks thinking with the steam ship deck funnel on the bonnet
Can't find any pics of engine or tech on the intake design rationale

and the other pic shows the advantages of the modern series per chance ?

Amazing things, huh? Hard to believe that's a FALCON under there! I don't know when they started doing this, but my guess is an attempt to either (A) avoid dust in the intake, or (B) get a bigger charge to the engine at higher altitudes. The link for the series is posted over at the Argentine prototypes thread. I only got one pic to open on the "historica" part of the site. IIRC, mostly these are 4 or 6 cylinder cars. Road & Track covered them a couple of times, will look for the issues and hope to post some scans.

Uh... like the second photo, BTW.

yeah, but as if replace the V8 with that long boat anchor. it's passable in the E36 though.

Why destroy the best sports saloon ever? Why couldn't they use any other 5er.

I don't care about the E36 either though.

exactly. you're supposed to put a better engine in when doing a conversion. a pov pack 5 series would have been a prime candidate.

What exactly did they put inside of the Liberty? It definitely was not a flat 4.
