Most people don't care about car companies at all, so it fails to surprise me.

To be fair Land Rover is is part of the Ford Motor Company, so could be argued that it's technically American.
But anywho, as Mr Tiv says the average Joe in the street (in any country) probabaly doesn't really give damn about where car companies come from, so it's not hugely suprising. I wonder how many non-car enthusiasts in Europe would know that Hyundai is Korean. And how many average Europeans would know that LG is Korean. Heck, my phone is an LG, and I didn't know (or care) where the company came from until I read that article.

I offhandedly remarked to my girlfriend that my lexus was basically a toyota the otherday and she had no idea that lexus was toyota owned. She had never even heard of GM and didn't know that all the brands were so connected. That being said, I didn't know that samsung was Korean until reading this article. It's probably true that most people don't care, but for some reason, I like to know...I'm just weird...

Yeah I knew a bunch of people who thought BMW wasn't German. But its not a matter of car companies but go figure. Land Rover has been around forever and Lexus has only emerged in the past 2 decades so I still don't understand why people don't know this.
Maybe this is why foreign companies are doing so well here

Yeah, but its roots are still in England.
I agree though, people will use it just because they need to use it. However, unless it directly affects them in some way, or they have a personal interest in the topic in general, they won't give a crap about it. It makes perfect sense. Most people don't care what brand of TV they watch as long as they have a TV to watch and get the shows that they want to watch.
Doesn't surprise me either, I have friends who somewhat pay attention to cars and they don't know either. I didn't know that Nokia was Finnish, and I don't think I knew Lego was either but upon reading that I think I once knew that but forgot...
