I'm sad for his children & fans - those who needed him.

But I'm mostly sad he died a weird shadow of his former glory, unable to reconcile his personal demons with a public persona.

Yeah, it's a tragedy. He was once very good and deservedly so. Unfortunately it seems he never got the therapy he needed, and thus crumbled to pieces. It's a shame he didn't get a chance to rebuild himself.

A Road already carved and written,
A journey not lightly undertaken,
He landed to deliver small tiny echos & Notes of Heaven,
Until all words and sounds were expressed
He Could and Would not rest,
His Chosen Path to be obstacle filled and hard,
Now Mission Accomplished,
He Can Return to where he came from
And Rest...and sleep...
The World He Left Touched and Changed
Forever.
Thanks Michael for the Words, Music & Dance.
Bless Your Life,
You Did Good, you did so so good.

I think it's safe to say he was strange but beyond that... neither you nor I nor anyone here knows. Which is why I think that grief on anything more than a personal level is, in some ways, self indulgence. While I can regret someone's passing, especially if they were someone I respect, the idea that I knew them closely enough to want to cry is ridiculous. We're all adults and we have to realize that everyone is going to die. So with that in mind, I think the bombing of hundreds of innocent people is far more important than one middle aged man's death. But to be honest I will grieve for neither.
It's emotional human nature. It's much more meaningful to us to mourn the death of an individual than it is to mourn the death of a faceless (to those of us that knew none of them) crowd of people.

Believe me, I'm not one of the people crying and freaking out. Those people absolutely are delirious to think this actually directly affects them in any way.

It baffles me that nearly every single individual pokes fun and disses the man while he's alive. The mere sound of his name was enough to make any person cringe, but now that he's bit the dust, all the bleeding hearts are creeping out of their shells, and seemingly instantaneously he's become a tragedy.
I'm not trying to single anyone out here, but having respect for the dead in general is one thing, and it involves not stepping or pissing on someone's grave. It doesn't however have anything to do with trying to gain some kind of newfound respect on what was clearly a disturbed individual who couldn't even accept himself for the way he was put on the earth. I am truly sorry for the childrens' (it is plural right?) loss. To them he was a father, and that I will condole. To me though, he was a daft twat, and I couldn't care any less of how much "Thriller" changed this planet's dance moves.

I think the biggest thing is that people are now looking towards his legacy, and remembering the good he's done (you're probably too young to understand just how big of a deal he was back in the day) trying to outweigh the psychologically unbalanced world he created for himself and the serious breaches of trust that were alleged to have occured.

He died a very damaged individual - one who's life was lead in a fishbowl, where he was not treated well.

The class and dignity displayed in this thread really is heartwarming. Thank you!

Well said. Have some respect for human life.
