    Der neue Astra OPC: Kompakter Spitzensportler mit aufregender Optik

    Rüsselsheim. Mit dem neuen Opel Astra OPC debütiert jetzt auf dem Automobilsalon in Genf (3. – 13. März) die Serienversion der Studie Astra High Performance Concept, die im letzten Jahr in Paris für viel Furore gesorgt hatte. Das neue OPC-Modell basiert auf dem Astra GTC und reizt mit aufregender Optik und einem auf Top-Leistung ausgelegten Technik-Paket das dynamische Potenzial der neuen Kompaktklasse-Generation noch weiter aus. Mit seinem 176 kW/240 PS starken 2,0-Liter-Turbobenzinmotor gehört der arden­blaue, vom OPC-Team entwickelte Astra zu den stärksten kompakten Fronttrieblern auf dem Markt. Das Triebwerk entwickelt ein maximales Drehmoment von 320 Newtonmetern und sorgt schon im unteren Drehzahlbereich für starken Schub. Den Sprint von Null auf Tempo 100 erledigt der mit einem Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe ausgerüstete Astra OPC in deutlich unter sieben Sekunden, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit beträgt über 240 km/h.



    Opel-Vorstandschef Hans H. Demant: „Der neue Astra OPC markiert den Auftakt für eine Reihe sportlicher Topmodelle, die wir in den kommenden Monaten vorstellen werden. Mit den OPC-Versionen wollen wir das hohe dynamische Potenzial zeigen, das in der Opel-Modellpalette steckt.“



    Das Triebwerk des neuen Astra OPC basiert auf dem 200 PS starken 2,0-Liter-Turbo­ben­ziner mit einem maximalen Drehmoment von 262 Nm, der als Topmotorisierung die anderen Astra-Varianten beflügelt. Das nochmalige Plus an Power für den Astra OPC wurde unter anderem durch Optimierungen auf der Einlass- und Auslass-Seite, Einsatz von hoch­wertigsten Motorkomponenten sowie durch eine Weiterentwicklung der Einspritzanlage und des Turboladers erreicht. Perfekt für die Potenz des OPC-Triebwerks konzipiert ist das IDSPlus-Fahrwerk (Interaktives Dynamisches FahrSystem) mit elektronischer Dämpferkontrolle (CDC – Continuous Damping Control) und Vernetzung aller Fahrdynamikregelungen, das gegenüber den anderen Astra-Modellen noch agiler und sportlicher ausgelegt wurde. Der neue Astra OPC rollt serienmäßig auf speziellen 18-Zoll-Leichtmetallrädern mit Reifen der Dimension 225/45 R 18, optional sind 19-Zoll-Räder (235/35 R 19) im Design der Paris-Studie verfügbar. Die im charakteristischen OPC-Blau lackierten Bremssättel signalisieren eine verstärkte Bremsanlage (Scheiben vorne, innenbelüftet: 321 mm / Scheiben hinten: 278 mm).



    Dass unter dem stählernen Trikot des Spitzensportlers jede Menge Kraft verborgen ist, zeigen auch Designmerkmale wie die gegenüber dem Astra GTC noch muskulöser ausgeformte Frontpartie. Sie wird geprägt durch einen deutlich breiter und tiefer gezogenen Lufteinlass, einen Wabengitter-Grill sowie einen Stoßfänger mit einer deutlich akzentuierten Spoilerlippe und integrierten Nebelscheinwerfern in den stark ausmodellierten seitlichen Öffnungen. Diese stellen zugleich eine harmonische Verbindung zu den zum Fahrzeugende hin noch stärker profilierten Seitenschwellern her. Sehr kraftvoll präsentiert sich auch das Heck des Astra OPC. Das Bild dominieren ein markanter Dachspoiler für reduzierten Auftrieb, zwei seitliche Öffnungen mit Gitterstruktur und das zentral angeordnete, trapezförmige Auspuffendrohr.



    Sportliche Details weist auch der Innenraum auf. Auffälligstes Merkmal sind die auf maximalen Seitenhalt ausgelegten Recaro-Sitze, die wahlweise in einer zweifarbigen Voll- oder Teillederausführung erhältlich sind. Die Sitzflächen sind ardenblau oder silberfarben, die Sitzwangen und Kopfstützen in schwarzem Charcoal ausgeführt. Weitere Interieur-Details sind ein neu gestalteter Leder-Schaltknauf, mit Chromringen eingefasste Instrumente mit blauen Zeigern und neuer Grafik auf schwarzem Hintergrund sowie Einstiegsleisten aus Edelstahl – alle jeweils mit dem neu gestalteten OPC-Logo versehen. Die Dekors an der Armaturentafel und in den Türen können in Ardenblau, Schwarz oder Silber geordert werden.



    Entwickelt wurde der Astra OPC von den Ingenieuren des Internationalen Technischen Entwicklungszentrums (ITEZ) in Rüsselsheim in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem OPC-Team (Opel Performance Center). Von den bisherigen OPC-Modellen auf Astra-, Astra Caravan- und Zafira-Basis wurden von 2001 bis Ende 2004 insgesamt über 15.000 Fahrzeuge ausgeliefert. Der neue Astra OPC startet im Herbst in den Markt.

    PS: "optics" are what the bottles hanging upside down in a bar are called and an athelete can ONLY be a person !!. I learned the lesson the hard way using online transaltion to try to discuss things with the Matra and Alpine gius in the French sites. I stopped and decided it was better to re-learn French !!

    The new Astra OPC from Opel makes its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show (March 3 – 13, 2005). This production version of the Astra High Performance Concept study revealed in Paris is based on the Astra GTC and takes the dynamic potential of the new compact class generation to new heights with its striking looks and state-of-the-art technology. With its 176 kW/240 hp 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine, the arden blue Astra developed by the OPC team is one of the most powerful compact front-wheel drive cars on the market. The engine develops maximum torque of 320 Newton meters and delivers strong pulling power at low engine speeds. The Astra OPC comes with a six-speed manual transmission, accelerates from zero - 100 in less than seven seconds and reaches a top speed of more than 240 km/h.

    The new Astra OPC’s engine is based on the 200 hp 2.0-liter turbo gasoline unit with maximum torque of 262 Nm, the top motorization for the other Astra variants. The OPC’s increased power is a result of optimizations to the intake and exhaust manifold, use of highest quality engine components as well as enhancements to the turbocharger and injection system.

    The engine’s power is matched by the IDSPlus chassis (Interactive Driving System) with electronic CDC (Continuous Damping Control) and integration of all driving dynamics controls, which has been made even more agile and sporty for the new Astra OPC.

    Special 18-inch alloy wheels and 225/45 R 18 tires are standard, 19-inch wheels (235/35 R 19) in the design of the Paris show car are available as an option. Brake calipers painted in characteristic OPC blue emphasize the powerful brake system (internally ventilated disks at front: 321 mm / disks at rear: 278 mm).

Between 2001 and the end of 2004, over 15,000 OPC models based on the Astra, Astra station wagon and Zafira were delivered. The new Astra OPC will be launched in the fall 2005.
