Chrysler is dying, this may actually prevent the Viper from going with it.

Chrysler is not dying. Actually the latest news about Chrysler is that they will merge with Fiat.
The announcement of Chrysler and Fiat’s merger, a move that may have a great influence on the auto market. Chrysler, faced with serious financial problems and still managed to sell about 2 million vehicles last year (most of them in the United States), while Fiat, whose main markets were Europe and Latin America, sold around 2.5 million units. So the result of the merger will be a one very important company.
“A Chrysler/Fiat partnership is a great fit as it creates the potential for a powerful, new global competitor, offering Chrysler a number of strategic benefits, including access to products that compliment our current portfolio; a distribution network outside North America; and cost savings in design, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and sales and marketing,” said Bob Nardelli, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler LLC."

MILAN (AP) — Automaker Fiat Group SpA will walk away from a deal to take a 20-percent stake in Chrysler LLC if the U.S. automaker's unions don't agree to major cost cuts, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said in an interview published Wednesday.

This is the same problem Cerb had with the unions; they simply won't cooperate.
it's like the unions prefer not being employed.

Doomed imho.
Chrysler are putting up the same reasons as they did for the Daimler "merger"
I was going to post that.
If Chrysler would retain the Viper, after an hypothetical merge with/purchase by Fiat, it would probably be sinked and disappear as De Tomaso did (not that it was under the Fiat management, but they don't like competition in their own land, ask Bugatti).
A Viper with some Italian madness would be cool though.

Hopefully Fiat will do a better job with Chrysler than Mercedes. Chrysler might still be a viable company had Mercedes not so badly mismanaged the company. Given the damage the Germans did, I think they got off light.
Chrysler merging with Fiat is like the titanic sinking whilst a another sizable vessel tries to prevent it from sinking. Eventually, the other ship will go down with it.
Agreed. The FIAT deal is a fantasy....that FIAT should run away from.
I'm also on the this isn't a sensible idea boat.
The problem Fiat got into their heads that they need to be present in the US with mainstream brands. So that may be it...
Lack of charisma can be fatal.
