I was looking at the Forester and the Impreza estate. The estate offered the power but not as much space.

BUT what I am trying to find out from the Forester which I can't is if the rear seats are sealed to the floor OR if they are empty underneath. If they are empty underneath then everything can fit and Robbie is Daddy's brother.

    They are fine, competent vehicles.

Not much emotion in the process.

    However their estates are huge.

Like I had said, 5.5 feet of length to the back seats from the rear door holding 4 people.

Preferably without having to put down the armrest and not a 60/40 split.

If the seats allow space underneath similar to captains chairs I am kind of sold.

Can you provide a model/year of the skoda?

Current Superb Combi has a 633 litre boot.

Has been on sale since 2008.

EDIT I don't know the actual interior dimensions of the boot.

M, why can't you use roofbox for skis and take "I need 5,5 feet cargo space" out of the equation?

I loathe Accessories. I really really do.

Besides the loathing, one experience I had when I was a child (which was a long time ago) when traveling, was when my uncle used one. We were on a road journeying along behind when his vehicle hit a bump and his roofbox just opened up and our car was pelted with all sorts of things.

I don't think I want to put anyone through that nor experience that again. Besides, losing one of those and not knowing it until you reach your destination is cataclysmic for any vacation.

Modern fittings and boxes are much more reliable

Did 120+mph on the autobahn with a large one on the Espace Quadra a few years back.... ROCK SOLID ( it took a hill to get there )

my armrest is part 0f the 60% of the reclining bench. The skis go through a hole underneath the rest.

Perhaps you dont realize just how easy the modern fittings on roof racks are to install and remove. 5 minutes or less for each install/uninstall is well worth the additional auto's that you can choose from. Why limit yourself to auto's with interior room?

a roofrack reduces the mileage by at least ten percent if not far more.

But surely that is less of a reduction from a passenger car to an SUV, or whatever he wants to keep his skiing stuff inside of.

Monetary reductions/additions can be significant given the European fuel prices....

I misspoke; I meant that a smaller car with a roof rack could probably still get comparable or better mileage than a larger car with all the skiing stuff on the inside.

Not to mention that for the 90% of the time when you are not carrying the high loads you won't be dragging along the excess metal, glass and plastic along...
