Loved the comment ............
"there's a little work to be done on the handling. The exit of the Karussell having more bounce than a Holden ute full of kangaroos. But you can't deny that noise isn't evocative."

From VIDEO: Big fat 2014 Camaro Z28 bounces around the 'Ring
"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
Because we can totally decipher the handling of a car, what stage of development it was in, and what program its doing for the engineering work, by a 45 sec video.....

Dale teaches on the 'Ring I trust his comments with only 5 seconds view.
CLEARLY that rear end is in trouble damping the kick out of the Karussell.
( Note: New drivers who try to copy this in their cars often end up in the barriers, so the car is doing a not-bad job !!! )
"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
And at the same time I'd trust the chassis engineer whose life is revolving around actually working on these vehicle to tune the setup on the car.
Again, without knowing what stage of the development the video shows, what program they are working on of if the driver is a development person, race car hot shoe or someone else, it has very little meaning or weight....
GM don't have some randam hack chassis engineer, if they do they won't be the one leading the development on MR dampers, or choosing something like the DSSV equipped damper for a production vehicle...

... yes, RM , and THAT is why the 'Ring is still used by development teams.
Because all the theory and math is fine BUT nothing quite matches the experience of fast on a road with undulations.
That rear end clearly has issues controlling the undulations the exit from Karussel create. As I'd sad before, many a car is spat out into the barriers at that location
Also, they don't send "numpties" out in the development cars -- for obvious reasons.
All Dale pointed out was they are clearly still having to do some work on that.
It is quite severe, but maybe the theory and road-going guys haven't the experience to realise what the 'Ring road throws at a car
GM won't be skimping for sure, but money and tech isnt' the be all and end all
many a "clever" idea has failed to deliver Esp if it doesn't take into account the goal of ideal handling on badly undulating roads when the car weighs a lot. OR maybe they put all their effort in to the design and tunning when it used to weigh 300lbs more and now it's not suitable and needing refined. Wonder what that level of weight loss did to corner weights
( ie to the simplistic, it looks as if the rear end damping is throwing the car up on exit and then in oscillation getting it back under control. A lot of weight back there and not often you hit those ( we do seem that a lot with out railway crossing tho' ) Damper may not have enough control for variable rate rebound and compression. )

"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
Except the "clever idea" here isn't exactly new, unproven, or out of nowhere...
Multimatic Inc.
DSSV is new for road cars, but its used in F1, LMP, GT and other racing cars....
Nor is GM exactly lacking experience in tuning cars at the Ring, its not their first go to the Ring also(or the first Camaro for that matter). It may well be the car is not optimized for the Ring for that video. But what does that mean at all? Its their first laps around that track with Z28? or is it in the middle of the development program? or are they signing off on the tune already? Commenting on a development car behaving like a development car makes as much sense as calling Prost F1 team a front runner because they were fast in pre-season testing....
While GM may not send a hack out there, plenty of "people in high places" can and do go out and get to drive development cars. Some are probably decent drivers too. Once in a while, managers, directors, people who signs off on money do get to sample their product.
I actually know the damper engineer on GM side that worked on this, and I know the vehicle dynamic simulation guy who worked on this for Multimatic. One has plenty of experience tuning road car dampers from Sachs, Bilstein and is now currently one of the GM go-to damper guy for multitude of the program, the other despite being relatively young has worked through Wirth Research with GT cars, LMP cars, simulator work and so forth. Not some random guys who is just messing about with big, heavy American cars....
