    Volvo Mini-C30

Mini-Volvo C30 to participate in athletic games

A very special electric Volvo C30 will participate in the Pan-American games, starting in Rio de Janeiro 13 July 2007.
The 1:5 scale model of the city hatchback Volvo C30, with the distinct horse shoe shaped back lights will help in the throwing disciplines.

This little car was developed to be able to quickly and smoothly transport javelins, hammers or discuses from the place they land, back to the competing athletes again.
Volvo Cars has hand-built the unique body that has been placed onto a chassis made by Nordic Sport. The car is radio controlled and has a two horsepower electric motor. Maximum speed is 20 km/h (5 mph).
It is designed to be able to transport four discuses, three javelins or two hammers.

The Volvo C30 is the smallest Volvo model on the market, and this particular Volvo C30 is much smaller but just as cool as its big sister, says Lennart Ekdahl, project leader for the mini-Volvo. It will however not be for sale to the general public.
The Pan-American games are a major athletics competition for the countries in the Americas. This year, 42 countries will participate in the games that are held between 13 and 29 July 2007.

    5mph = 8km/h.

Is it just me, or does the idea of a radio controlled car with a javellin strapped to the roof sound like something out of a bad slasher film?

Excellent idea for transporting Javelin, but i'd put something to stop it stabbing someone's shin on the end... Looks very cool as well. Wonderful advertisement for the Volvo - which i don't see many of around...

Why not the XC90 though? Seeing as that's more accociated with off-roading and as this will travel over grass... It's pretty cool though, is it battery powered or petrol?

Ever heard of reading with comprehension?
It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

I thought the used that one for the last Olympics.
Just looked it up on the Volvo website.

If a mod could change the name of this thread to Volvo radio controlled cars it would be more suited.

Mini-Volvo for special transport duties during the European Athletic Championships

The Volvo Car Corporation has built a mini-Volvo that takes care of very special transport requirements during the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. The car, which is a 1:5 scale model of a Volvo XC90, was developed to be able to, quickly and smoothly, transport javelins, hammers or discuses from the place where they land, back to the thrower again.

Volvo Cars has hand-built four unique small bodies, mounted on electrically driven chassis developed by the Nordic Sport company. The radio-controlled mini-Volvo with a two horsepower electric motor is capable of transporting either four discuses, three javelins or two hammers. Two hammers alone, together weigh 14 kilos! The little car has been greatly appreciated when, fully loaded and at a speed of 20 kilometres an hour, it scampers over the grass at the Ullevi athletics stadium in Gothenburg.
However, Volvo Cars does not have any plans afoot to mass produce the mini XC90 model.

Its an of the shelf RC chassis with a new cover on top. It would be more fun if it was actually a miniture replica tecnically too.

    It's not as cool.

Actually, a scale miniature version would be so much better, like another member said. It's still a nice concept and a cool way to advertise.

Have anyone seen the Lego XC90? Now that's cool.
