The Cosmo sounds better and better the more I look into it, gas mileage aside.
It seems vastly more practical than some of the suggestions in this thread, without being too boring.

I was curious, and searched to see if there was a JewTube (I know you meant YouTube).

    It exists.

    I wasn't suggesting a car for you.

Sorry, not taking this very seriously and giving any real advice
Just not sure how bad the traffic is now, certainly 10 years ago I'd get a scoooter
Only chance of actually getting anywhere and use the trains for the long distance stuff !!

Having just returned from the land of the rising house price, I can tell you a few things...

    1) a Stagea is going to be far, far too big.
    2) Readjust your expecations in terms of what you can buy size wise without getting taxed through your nose. General to-and-from work stuff will likely be public transport. which is brilliant - clean, on time, cheap and relatively comfortable, beyond the sardine packing in times of peak hour
    3) Don't discount Vans.
    4) Toyota Porte. Sliding door on one side, Trad on the other.

Since everyone has already suggested pretty much the entire Japanese car production from the last 30 years, I'm going completely left-field.

how 'bout a Toyota Altezza even tho it's just a rebadged Lexus IS? I'm also sticking by the Diahatsu Storia X4, 4WD and decent power in a small car, good combo

    How about an Abarth G.Punto?
Not exactly a key car, but it's also possible that you can actually fit in one.

if i were moving to Yurp, the Grande Punto would be on the list, but I would have a hard time buying an italian car in japan.

Not necessarily - I saw plenty of Eurotrash during my travels. Particularly Old school Mini Coopers from 1990-1998.

And second hand cars are virtually worth sweet nothing there.
