They already did the major redesign in 2008. The '09 version just has minor details changed.

And anyway I've read somewhere that were they to bring the Euro Focus to the US at first it would be sold alongside the US Focus.

Does the 2008 one look like the 2009 one?

It still seems odd that they would bother design the interim NA Focus while they are planning on brining the European one in 2010, and selling them alongside each other seems stupid.

Well since the Euro Focus would be more expensive than the US Focus they wouldn't be aimed at the same market and therefore would not fight for the same costumer.

It's not that stupid, and it's something manufacturers do sometimes when replacing an old car with something that's a big leap forward. Fiat has done it with the Punto (old) and the Grande Punto (new), Renault has done it with the Clio Campus (old) and the Clio (new) or Skoda with the Octavia Classic (old) and Octavia (new).

In fact, doesn't Volkswagen actually sell the Mk IV Golf (labelled as the City Golf) alongside the Golf Mk V here in Canada?

    You raise a good point.

Notice that I did not say it was stupid, I said it seemed stupid, to a person like me who doe snot understand.

If they already build Euro Foci in Europe somewhere, why didn't they instead of redesigning the NA one build second gen Euro Foci here?

Probably because the decision to bring the Euro Focus was taken after the green light for the US Focus redesign was given.

Thing is Ford is in desperate need of smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles due to the rising petrol prices and the easiest place to look for those was Europe. Even if that meant that most previous US efforts would be more or less lost.

    Amazing ineptitude.

So I take it the Euro Focus has a different engine then?

    And is more fuel efficient?

A lot of engines are offered from a 1.6-litre 100bhp petrol to the 225bhp turbocharged engine in the ST. And there are also some diesels.

As for fuel consumption is difficult to tell with two different rating systems, but the diesels would probably get better mileage than your Focus.

it is one of the best in its segment considering how much it costs.
