what is the exact definition of supercar?

is it a car that has a job that it performs exceedingly well, wether its offroading, rally racing, or track racing? is it just something insanely fast? an amazing handler? something that can do a bit of everything well? or is it something else? i just want to know the general opinion of how people define what a supercar is.

There's two threads about this. I'm pretty sure there's more. There's never a definitive answer. I think a lot of cars qualify for supercar status for different reasons.
    i.e:
Audi RS6 Avant: The supercar of choice for when you have a fridgefreezer that needs moving...
Bowler Wildcat: The supercar of choice when tarmac becomes illegal...
Bentley Continental GT: The supercar of choice when you and three friends need, for some reason, to travel to the other side of the world by car... Quickly...

    Easy...how to identify a supercar:
    1. You usually have a wallpaper of poster of it (trust me, most people don't have a Civic wallpaper )
    2. is worth more than your house
    3. has more horseys than all the horses on Earth put together
    4. you can only test drive with an appointment and only if wearing a suit and a credit card
    5. usually drool when you see one

That's a very good description, I would add:

    6. If you get to to see one on the street. They are usualy very rare.

    Here are some rules:
No more than 4 seats. If 4, must be a 2+2.
Engine with 8 or more cylinders (except porsche 911)
    Cost over 100k
Most people have heard of it.

    I've already posted this.
    Read and learn.

Supercars are cars that, in whatever way, are exagerated and surpass by far the requirements necessary for a car to be usefull in its respective category. A BMW 330i is a normal car, a M3 is a supercar because it has far more power and performance necessary for a 2 door passenger car that can carry 4 people and luggage.

Exotics are cars that are rare, expensive and desirable. They might also have some historical significance.

but are there exceptions to some of these rules? like.......the first time i saw the srt-10 viper (few eyars ago), it gave me more of a feeling like i was looking at something with power beyong my imagination, even more then an enzo. plus it has great performance, but its not even 100k fully loaded. would that mean its a supercar? basically.......how much can the rules be bent? the lotus elise is a great performer, pretty rare in america, but doesnt fulfill the price requirement. maybe that would make it a "super roadster"?
