It'll be interesting to see whether or not this blatant case of team orders is penalised..

Massa gave up his win in Brazil 07 for Kimi.....Kimi let Massa past at China 08, Heikki let Hamilton past to win this very race 2 years ago IIRC.

Given the 4 second lead it does appear that Massa was significantly slower, too.

Oh...almost forgot the team telling Button to back off 'because of fuel' at Turkey when he and Ham were locking wheels.(after the Webber/Vettel tangle)

Not long before the order Massa was 3.5 seconds ahead of Alonso.

The team were found guilty of forcing Felipe Massa to move aside to allow Alonso, his team-mate, to pass and take a victory that puts himback into contention in the World Championship.

However, the Spaniard could yet be stripped of the points he gained as the result of a ploy that infuriated millions of fans.

Ferrari were fined dollars $US100,000 ($112,000) for illegally issuing team orders, breaching a regulation introduced in 2002 to stop race-fixing after another serious offence by the Scuderia.

But the team will also have to face motor racing's highest court, the World Motor Sport Council, probably next month, to discover whether they will be punished further.

Penalties could include forfeiting victory, a points deduction or even a ban.

Being told that he could not win the race was all the more poignant for Massa because this was his first real chance of victory since almost losing his life in an accident a year ago to the day.

    ...

However, he led from the start at Hockenheim overnight and was on course for victory until Ferrari issued the instruction for Massa to move aside for his team-mate with 20 laps to go to the chequered flag.

Massa was visibly upset as he clambered from his car but refused to be drawn, insisting he had worked for the team.

Niki Lauda, who won two World Championships with Ferrari, was strident in his criticism of the team and directed his anger at Alonso, who refused to acknowledge that he had been handed victory by his team-mate.

"This was the most stupid thing I have ever seen from Ferrari," Lauda said. "Why did they do it? They did not need to do it. I have never heard a driver talk such bull**** in my life."

Eddie Jordan, the former team owner and now a BBC pundit, said: "It was unlawful and it was theft. For me, it is cheating and the two cars should be excluded."

Personally, whilst i feel it was clearly a case of team orders, i think Ferrari shouldve been given a reprimand or something equivalent. Theres been plenty of cases where the message has been the driver behind is faster, but they were left unpunished. Although i dont know how many had the previous leaders engineer come on the radio and apologize. That couldve been the bit that caught Ferrari out here.

I don't get why in a sport that is open to two-car teams only, team orders are banned.

    so the criticial lines are:
"Alonso is faster than you, understood?" (via the board radio to Massa)

    This gave him two options:
To go faster and match the speed of Alonso, (which he was able to do in the first part of the race)
    or
To think about the position of his teammate in the championship and hand him five points extra.

    He did the latter,

I think that the cryers like Jordan and Lauda should understand that F1 is no longer a sport but a multi million dollar business, aiming at financial rather than traditional sport results.
At least what Ferrari did was far more effective than the charade in Turkey, where the Red Bull drivers greatly compromised the team interests.
