Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic and Ferrari 212 Export from Villa d'Este ...

As mentioned in our detailed Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este report, the clear winner of the prestigious event was Ralph Lauren's Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupe. Arguably one of the most beautiful and certainly among the most valuable cars, just four Atlantics were built of which just two have survived largely unmolested. These are Lauren's chassis 57591 and also chassis 57374, which changed hands for a staggering $30+ million back in the spring of 2010. A third car also exists, which has been rebuilt around the remains the Atlantic that was involved in a fatal accident back in 1955. All four cars are pictured in our 42-shot gallery and each chassis' individual history is also carefully explained.
Another one of our favourite cars at the Concorso d'Eleganza was this rare Ferrari 212 Export Touring Barchetta. Just eight examples were built with this iconic bodystyle and even fewer are around today. The example on show at Villa d'Este was driven to a class win at the Tourist Trophy and had not been seen in public for quite a few years.
Hot on the heels of the latest HSV models, Vauxhall have released the all-new VXR8 GTS. This Australian-built monster boasts the supercharged 'LSA' engine out of the highly acclaimed Camaro ZL1, which is good for a hefty 576 bhp. Compared to its German rivals, the four-door VXR8 GTS continues to offer an exceptional bang-for-buck ratio.
At the end of June, the daunting Pikes Peak Hill Climb will once again be held. Among the competitors are two all-electric machines from Japanese manufacturers. Both will have 400 kW on tap but while the TMG EV P002 features just two motors, Mitsubishi's MiEV Evolution II sports a 100 kW motor in each of its four wheels. Tasked to drive the Toyota Motorsport GmbH prepared EV P002 is Pikes Peak legend Rhys Millen, while a pair of MiEV Evolutions IIs will be fielded, for Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

I remember reading a lengthy article in R&T on the restoration of the Lauren T57, arguably the most authentic and sympathetic restoration of a classic car I've come across.
Beautiful and painstaking work, right down to the correct insulation material between the body panels.
    Fabulous car.
