Lol i drive in between them almost every day They are storage facilties for loose material like sand and fine gravel. The Terminal where they are on, EBS or European Bulk Services, handles bulk cargo likes cokes, coal, gravel, scrap metal etcetera. The coal, scrap and cokes are heavy enough to be stored in the open air (It's literally everywhere though). Because it can be quite windy near the water there would be no sand left after a few days, if they stored it in the open.

It's always fun to drive there with a just-washed car.. everything is black, signposts are unreadable and windows are so dirty each day it is impossible to see through. All the stuff they store leaves a very fatty, filthy layer of about half a centimeter thick on the cars each time we visit.

Look at their website as well; http://www.ebsbulk.com/

I see. That was sort of anticlimactic. I was hoping for an answer along the lines of:

"They've been there for a long long time, nobody knows where they came from, nobody knows who built them. They tried to destroy them to build more port storage but the bulldozers broke down and would not start. Sometimes, at night you can hear a strange humming sound coming from the top..." etc...

oh well..thanks for the info.
