Thanks gents for the photos of the Jags and the heads up on the Grp C site.
I have always loved the Jag XJ12C, and the racing versions are no exception. Just a bit of a shame the racing car was such a dismal failure
henk4, the Australian Grp C cars were something of an enigma in touring car racing. They were more modified than say the old FIA Group 1 cars, but not as much as Group 4 or the fabulous Group 5 cars (I just loved them!!). The regulations were written to suit locally produced cars, the Ford Falcon in its various guises and the Holden Torana/Commodore..European cars rarely did well, and although the Japanese did manage some successes, it was basically a home-town sort of class...much like NASCAR..ie no foreigners to win...the cars retained a full interior (!), racing gearboxes like Getrags were not permitted (unless the car came with one..) but the engines eventually became quite heavily modified, dry sumps etc, and cheating tended to be rife.
The cars are fondly remembered by Aussie touring car fans, as they preceded the adoption of FIA Grp A in 1985, and those memories were instrumental in the eventual adoption of the current 5litre Touring Car Championship rules that we have now. I was always a fan of FIA Grp A, it allowed for variety, and we got that in spades...

The Group C era in Australian Touring Car racing also had the distinction of producing one of the best looking touring cars ever to race in Australia: the 1984 Bathurst 1000 1-2 winning Marlboro Holden Dealer Team Commodores of Peter Brock/Larry Perkins and John Havey/David Parsons.

Hush your mouth msn!!! Those are Holdens you are talking about..the evil empire For mine the best looking Aussie Grp C car was the JPS BMW 635csi...now that car just oozed agression. But some photos of the Holden Commodore anyway..
Holden Commodore (model VK) M-HDT livery as driven by Peter Brock at Goodwood last year.

thanks, never seen that one before. My first idea though after opening the pic was that I was looking at a Ford Escort Mk3....

The Commodore is a physically much larger machine..more your Granada size vehicle. The funny thing is that when I see a VK model these days, it looks quite small compared to the current model Commodore.

I'm a Ford fan (I used to dribble at the sight of an RS500...), but I still think that the 1984 HDT VK's were great looking cars. Possibily it was the spectatular livery that made them look so good rather than the cars.
Thanks for posting the pictures. A 2 minute search on Google surprsingly failed to find any pictures in a more suitable format for posting on UCP and I don't own a scanner, so scanning some magazine pictures was out of the question.
