Thanks gents for the photos of the Jags and the heads up on the Grp C site.
I have always loved the Jag XJ12C, and the racing versions are no exception. Just a bit of a shame the racing car was such a dismal failure
henk4, the Australian Grp C cars were something of an enigma in touring car racing. They were more modified than say the old FIA Group 1 cars, but not as much as Group 4 or the fabulous Group 5 cars (I just loved them!!). The regulations were written to suit locally produced cars, the Ford Falcon in its various guises and the Holden Torana/Commodore..European cars rarely did well, and although the Japanese did manage some successes, it was basically a home-town sort of class...much like NASCAR..ie no foreigners to win...the cars retained a full interior (!), racing gearboxes like Getrags were not permitted (unless the car came with one..) but the engines eventually became quite heavily modified, dry sumps etc, and cheating tended to be rife.
The cars are fondly remembered by Aussie touring car fans, as they preceded the adoption of FIA Grp A in 1985, and those memories were instrumental in the eventual adoption of the current 5litre Touring Car Championship rules that we have now. I was always a fan of FIA Grp A, it allowed for variety, and we got that in spades...
