    Audi A9 Coupe Coming in 2014 - Report

    Audi's quest for world domination is continuing as a new report is indicating the A9 coupe could be launched as soon as 2014.

    Although unconfirmed, Car Magazine says the range-topping model would be based on the A8 and built alongside the R8 at the company's factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. Furthermore, with the redesigned Mercedes S-Class set to spawn a convertible variant, an A9 cabriolet could be in the cards for 2015.

    Engine options are highly speculative, considering the model hasn't been green-lighted yet, but Car is reporting choices could include everything from a 211 PS (155 kW / 208 hp) 3.0-liter V6 to a 520 PS (382 kW / 513 hp) 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the S9.

    I'm sorry, but if someone said to me that Audi was making an A9 coupe my mind would immediately go to 8-Series comparisons ie. the top of the line model would be a grand tourer in the realm of 599s or DB9s in modern terms.

    As such a 513hp V8 doesn't cut it in my opinion, I would rather see (and hear) a V12 engine of some form in a large scale coupe... having given it a little more thought I'd even prefer something in the way of a naturally aspirated V12 even if it was only good for 450hp or so if the torque was high.

    Like was said a while back, Audi is trying to numerically one up BMW by making their cars "one more."
    Too bad all the Chinese/Dutch/Russians need to do is revive the 9000. Even Skoda has no answer.

    I'm sure there could be an RS9 if they decide they want more power.

    Infiniti should really make a car called the Plus One. No one could beat that.

    Of course, being Audi, it would for sure be a W12, yes?

    Skoda is above all those puny and meaningless devices on four wheels. They are laughing at them in the Pub as we speak.

    R8 = SLS
    A8 = S
    A9 = CL

    'Cept that the CL is going away with the next S-Class.. it'll become the S-class coupe.

    Nope, it's called marketing.

    Something which at Skoda has never been heard of.

    Is Audi diluting its brand and series by producing so many variants.

    A1-A9, Q1-Q7, etc.

    What happened to the "Keep it Simple" concept ?

    It was forgotten when they discovered profits. And then lost when they discovered marketing.

    Well... as much as I dislike Audi, they are right about this one. Audi NEEDS a big GT-type coupe to compete head-on with Merc's CL. The A5 is too small to do the job. Also, it couldn't fit the W12/V12 that people are looking for in that class.
    I'd be happy. Maybe it would force BMW to build something to compete. The 6er is cool, and all, but it isn't big enough to be CL competition.

    hellcat was saying it will be interesting to see how VAG develops.

    Many brands did not work out at all for GM (or Ford really). I am interested to see if this will turn out to be a big mess in the future.
