Nissan President

First picture, President Sovereign H252

As Nissanís flagship car, this high-quality sedan boasted the best in technology and luxury. The H252 indicates that it was derived from the Cedric Special (50), launched in August 1963. The 250 was launched in 1973, and the 252, which conformed to 1978 exhaust emission regulations, was launched in August 1977. The top-grade Sovereign was equipped with an 4,400cc V8 engine.

This open car used to be lent out by Nissan for use in special events, such as transporting sumo champions in victory parades, or as the leading car in a marathon. Because of the special situations in which it was to be used, it was designed as an electric car to lighten the burden on the environment. Its top speed is 40km/h and maximum driving distance on one full charge is 100km. Its acceleration is impressive, doing 0-30km/h in 3 seconds, and 0-40km/h in 9.5 seconds.

Third picture, President JHG50

The President was Japanís first authentic full-size car. The first-generation model (150) debuted on October 21, 1965. This was followed by a full model change (250) in August 1973, and the third-generation JHG50 was announced on October 24, 1990.

The styling of the JHG50, representing the first full model change in 17 years, was distinguished by the elegant vertical design of its front grille and the grand proportions resulting from its long wheelbase. The interior was enhanced by the extended wheelbase (+180mm) and reduced noise (62dB in the cabin at 100km/h), while comfort was improved further with silk wool seats (standard), Connolly leather seats (option), power seats with auto-lifter, and a central control for the rear seats. Powered by the VH45DE engine (V8 4.5-liter DOHC), offering a maximum output of 270PS, the JHG50 featured the very latest of Nissanís technologies, as demonstrated by its 4-wheel multilink hydraulic active suspension, V-TCS traction control with viscous LSD, and engine automatic integrated control.

With a minor change in February 1992, the short-wheelbase JS Series was added to the lineup, and in April 1993 a model was launched with the worldís first rear-seat SRS airbags.

I think they reduce the blind spot, even if the image you get is considerably smaller (meaning far from your eyes).

A lot of Japanese cars had fender mounted mirrors, and some still offer them.

The convertible is a bit funky, but the other sedans are cool. I don't know if I would choose this over a Toyota Century though. If I had to, it'd definitely be a Century.

In japan they used to be mandated for every car, by law

Not sure when this was rescinded, but their cars exported to Oz all had these little plastic plugs to cover the holes in the front mudguard tops where the jap-spec mirrors would have been mounted

Apparently these were higher quality/more comfortable than the Rolls Royce's at the time.

Yeah, I wouldn't want those girls leaning over right there when I drive, either.
