Page 1 of 1 Right before the Second World War Aston Martin developed a revolutionary test-car, called the Atom. It incorporated over 20 patents, and has to date covered over 400.000 km. The War abrubtly ended the project. After the War an investor test drove only the Atom before he bought the company. This investor was David Brown, his initials are still used today for Aston Martin models.
'His' first Aston Martin was launched in 1948 and was at the time known as the Sports 2-Litre but after it was replaced by the DB2 it was dubbed DB1. It featured many of the novelties found in the Atom, most importantly its chassis and lightweight body construction. Only a small number of DB1s were built before it was replaced by the 6 cylinder DB2 in 1950. Page 1 of 1
