Chassis:
One of three 956s built specifically for the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans, chassis 004 was not ready literally until the eve of the race. Driven by Al Holbert, Hurley Haywood and Jürgen Barth nevertheless managed to finish a fine third behind the sister 956s. It was raced by the works team and also loaned to Richard Lloyd Racing for several more seasons but ultimately no victories were scored. In 1990, it was sold to longtime Porsche privateer Willi Kauhsen, who had it restored by former Porsche engineers. Following a demonstration at Goodwood in 2012 by a subsequent owner, it was sold at auction in February of 2014 for EUR 2.3 million. It has since returned to the racing track.
