Chassis:
Richard Lloyd Racing acquired one of the very first Porsche 956 customer cars, which the team raced with considerable success for two seasons. By that point, Lloyd had recognised a weakness in the car's chassis design and Thompson built a honeycomb reinforced aluminium monocoque. Not to confuse it with the existing car, this new chassis was labelled 106B. Using many components from the existing car, the new chassis was readied. Again wearing Canon colours, it was competitive but no wins were scored, although it did place second at Le Mans in 1985. Following a big shunt at Spa in 1985, a second replacement chassis was required. In this guise, it was raced until the end of the 1986, adding a victory in that year's Brand Hatch 1000 km to its tally. It has since been completely restored to its original, 1984 guise.
