Early in 1967, this 206 S Dino was sold directly by the factory to Scuderia Filipinetti. The Swiss privateer fielded the car in the Sebring 12 Hours, where it failed to finish with suspension failure and the Nürburgring 24 Hours, where it suffered considerable fire damage in practice. The remains were returned to the factory and set aside due to the extent of the work required to rebuild the car. Eventually the wreck was acquired by French collector Pierre Bardinon, who in turn sold it to Corrado Cupellini in the early 1980s. The Italian collector started the laborious work of reconstructing chassis 026. During the 1990s, he regularly raced the car in historic events. Following several American owners, it passed into Japanese hands in 2001. Offered by Symbolic Motors at the time, it was raced in the 2007 Ferrari Challenge round during the Monterey Historic Races by Bill Noon.
