Engineless, this Knobbly Lister was delivered new to Auto Engineering, the American East Coast representative, as per the order of Mrs. Harry Clark Boden. When she came to pick up the car, she was disappointed to find cast-iron instead of the specified aluminium brake callipers fitted. The salesman reputedly did not respond very appropriately to her complaints and Mrs. Clark Boden ripped up the contract and walked away. She quickly found a suitable replacement at Carroll Shelby's shop in Texas, leaving BHL 115 in Lexington, Massachusetts.

The unsold Lister quickly became an obsolete racing car and was placed in a corner where its main use was an additional pair of seats for the mechanics on their lunch-break. Eventually someone did come calling for the Lister; a young enthusiast by the name of Stan Hallinan. He acquired the car in 1962 with a considerable discount at $5,000. The Lister was fitted with a small block V8 sourced directly from the MOMO Corporation, where it had been a spare for the team's 1960 Le Mans efforts with a pair of Corvettes. The engine was actually installed at the Lister workshop back in England and following a brief shakedown test removed again as for customs reasons the car and engine were shipped back separately to the United States.

Upon taking delivery, Hallinan only used the car very sparingly in local events. He absolutely cherished the car and in 1992 it was brought out to the Lister reunion event at Lime Rock Park where company founder Brian Lister was completely taken by its condition: "...absolutely the most amazing time-warp car I have ever seen...!". Having owned the Lister for a half a century, Hallinan sadly passed away in October of 2012. His estate has now decided to part with the car and consigned it to the August 16 Bonhams Quail Lodge auction. This most original of all surviving Listers has a pre-sale estiamte of $1.5 - $2.5 million.
