Chassis:
Chassis 50177 was the third of three special Type 50s built for the 1931 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Painted in 'discontent' black it was piloted by Albert Divo and Guy Bouriat. It was doing very well until a tire related crash of a sister car forced Jean Bugatti to withdraw the team. The ex-Le Mans racer was sold to Pierre Veyron in 1933. He entered the car three more times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, leading in 1935 until a gearbox failure ended the race prematurely. Today chassis 50177 is the sole survivor of the three 1931 Le Mans cars and still features its original body. One example was destroyed at Le Mans, while the other received road car coachwork after 1931. Its original coachwork fitted on another Type 50 chassis and raced alongside 50177 at Le Mans in 1935. In immaculate condition, it is seen here at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed where Bugatti's 100th anniversary was celebrated.
