Chassis:
The very first 300S built, chassis 3051 was sold new to Briggs S. Cunningham for his nephew Bill Lloyd to race. He campaigned the car with considerable success in SCCA events throughout the United States for the better part of two seasons. In December of 1956, it was driven to victory in the Nassau Trophy by factory driver Stirling Moss. Fitted with a long nose, it was sold to a scion of the wealthy du Pont family early in 1957. Marguerite du Pont fielded the car for the next couple of seasons for the likes of John Fitch and Bob Holbert, who continued its success in SCCA events. She retained the car until the 1970s when it passed through several hands before being acquired by Angus Spencer-Nairn, who owned chassis 3051 for over two decades. Bought by dealer Klaus Werner in 1999, it was meticulously restored to its original short-nose configuration by Mario Linke. It has since changed ownership several times more and has seen regular action in historic events.
