Chassis:
A highly successful works racer, chassis 3054 made its debut in the hands of Jean Behra at the Grand Prix du Senegal. Behra failed to finish but later in the year, he did manage to win the Grand Prix Supercortemaggiore at Monza together with Luigi Musso. Behra also won the Grand Prix Portugal at Oporto with this car. In November, Juan Manuel Fangio also added a victory at the Venezuelan Grand Prix to its tally. Ahead of the 1956, it was upgraded to the long nose body configuration. In this guise it was immediately successful with Stirling Moss and Carlos Menditeguy clinching a win in the opening round of the World Championship, the Buenos Aires 1000 km. It later also won its class at Sebring and again at Buenos Aires a year later. In private hands, the 300S continued to be raced into the 1960s. Passing through various hands including notorious 'collector' Lord Charles Brocket, it has since 2010 been part of a phenomenal German Maserati collection.
