Chassis:
Barry Wood, boss of Surbiton Motors and an accomplished privateer racer, designed a slippery roof for the 26R, which he had fabricated by specialists Shapecraft. He sold the roofs in kit form and one of these was acquired by Dick Crosfield for chassis 26R-7. He famously used the Shapecraft Coupe bodied Elan to win the 1965 Autosport GT Championship. During the mid-1980s it was restored by Simon Hadfield for the then owner. The most recent owner acquired the car in the early 2010s and handed it to Simon Hadfield for another restoration before campaigning it in historic events.
