Chassis:
Although fitted with an aluminium body and a hot engine, this 250 GT SWB was not raced in period. Instead, it was used as a street car by its original owner, a Dr. Cesari Marchi from Florence. He had done the same with a similarly race-bred 250 GT 'Tour de France', he had owned previously. During the early 1970s, chassis 1953GT followed many of its contemporaries to the United States. It was then damaged in an accident and not completely repaired until it passed through various hands. The ultimate restoration was carried out by foremost specialist Wayne Obrey of Motion Products. The car remained in the United States until 1994, when it crossed the Pacific to Japan. It returned to California in the late 2000s and was more recently acquired by a British enthusiast, who had the likes of Le Mans winner Jackie Oliver, Red Bull Racing team principle Christian Horner and historic racing ace Gary Pearson campaign the car in events like the Goodwood Revival.
